1/7/2018 0 Comments Happy New YEar!Dear Families,
Happy New Year! We are starting the new year with many exciting new units and projects. Please encourage your child to share what he/she is learning at school! Reading Our new reading unit is focuses on the author Tomie dePaola and the characters in his stories. The students are making connections between the stories as well as finding the problems, solutions, and central messages as they read. Over the next few weeks, I will be working with the students on their mid-year reading assessments. Math We have recently started Module 4 in math. Students are learning new strategies to add and subtract within 200. Parent information sheets will be sent home this week that further explain the new strategies we are using! Writing Our poetry unit is coming to an end. Students have worked hard to create rhyming poems, haikus, acrostic poems, and alliterations. They have really enjoyed sharing their work with the class and are gaining fabulous presenting skills! Keep an eye out for their published poetry books! Science Our new unit of study is matter. Students have been learning about the properties of solids, liquids, and gases. They are now using this information to make Friendship Bread. In the upcoming weeks, we will be having a pancake breakfast. Stay tuned for the date! Family Journals One Fridays we will continue to write in our Family Journals. As a reminder, students are encouraged to share their journals with their families on the weekend, and then bring them back to school on Mondays. I ask that parents either sign the letters or write a letter back to their child. I have loved reading all of the entries so far! Thank you again for your support! Homework Students receive a homework packet at the beginning of the week. This includes their spelling words, a reading log, and math practice. Please encourage your child to complete his or her homework on a nightly basis and to return it to school the following Monday. The green homework folders also need to go back and forth from home and school each day. Students have been earning a Class Dojo point for returning their folders to school! Other Updates:
