9/19/2017 0 Comments Classroom UpdatesDear Families,
I just want to check in about a few things that I sent home with the students today. Class Dojo I have decided to use Class Dojo as a form of classroom management. Students will earn points throughout the day for staying on task, helping others, participating, persisting through a challenging task, and working hard. In order to reinforce positive behaviors, I will only be rewarding points on the positives, rather than taking away for negative behavior. Students will be able to “cash in” their points to earn a reward at the end of each week. Another excellent feature of Class Dojo is that Parents can see how their child is doing each day. I sent home a sheet of paper with an access code for each student. Please download the app or go to www.classdojo.com to set up an account! Tiny Topic Notebooks A “Tiny Topic Notebook” and a letter explaining the "Tiny Topic Notebook" were also sent home today. The notebook is meant to be a place for students to write down ideas for their small moment story, not to write a whole story. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Room Parents I have received many emails with parents volunteering to be room parents or volunteering to help out in some way. I greatly appreciate the response! If you are interested in volunteering, please let me know by tomorrow. I will be picking names from a hat after school. If you do not get chosen and would still like to help out in some way, please reach out. The more the merrier! Have a wonderful long weekend! Miss Boudrow :) 9/15/2017 0 Comments Friday News!Dear Families,
We had another exciting week in Room 205! The students have been working hard and have done a wonderful job displaying the King Core Values. Weekly Updates: Reading In reading this week, we continued to practice the routines of reading workshop and how to build our reading stamina. We also used sticky notes as a tool to write down our thoughts while reading. Over the next few weeks I will be working with individual students to assess their reading levels. Math The math lessons this week had a strong focus on adding and subtracting using number bonds. Fact fluency has allowed students to be successful in this module. Although we practice basic addition and subtraction facts in school each day, I ask that you continue to practice math facts at home! Writing This week, we began brainstorming ideas for our “small moment” stories. Students will be writing about an important moment in their lives while using a lot of detail. Next week, I will be sending home Tiny Topics journals for students to brainstorm more ideas at home. Science What is a scientist? What do scientists study? These are questions that we began exploring in science this week. I am excited to begin learning about experiments next week! Social Studies The first Social Studies unit focuses on communities. Students learned that a community is a place where people live, work, and play. Students worked in groups to sort pictures into each category! We have also discussed ways to make our classroom a loving community. Family Journals Today, we wrote our second entry in our Family Journals. As a reminder, students are encouraged to share their journals with their families on the weekend, and then bring them back to school on Mondays. I ask that parents either sign the letters or write a letter back to their child. I loved reading the entries from last week! Thank you for your support! Friendly Reminders
Happy Friday! Miss Boudrow 9/8/2017 1 Comment Successful Second week!Dear Families,
We had another wonderful week at school! Room 205 is a class full of caring young students who are eager to learn and to display our King Core Values. Weekly Updates: Reading In reading we are learning the routines of reading workshop and how to build our reading stamina. Please ask your child about the word “stamina” at home. So far, our class has read for 11 minutes straight! We will be working to build our stamina as the year continues. Math This week, we started our first math module. This module focuses on addition and subtraction. Today, we played connect four with “Make 10” math facts. Please continue to review math facts with your children at home! Writing Our first writing project, based on the book “The Best Part of Me,” allowed the students to focus on the best part of themselves. We are working on writing complete sentences, starting our sentences with a capital letters, and ending our sentences with a period. I can’t wait to see the final drafts of our first project! Family Journals Today, we started writing in our Family Journals. On Fridays, second graders will write a letter about their week at school. Students are encouraged to share their journals with their families on the weekend, and then bring them back to school on Mondays. I ask that parents either sign the letters or write a letter back to their child. Thank you for your support! Classroom Routines Over the past two weeks, we spent a lot of time focusing on the King Core Values and how to follow them in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and bathrooms. We have also read many stories with a focus on kindness and inclusion. These themes will continue to be a topic of discussion throughout the year during morning meeting and open circle. Friendly Reminders
